GIULIELLERIA BY GIULIA BOCCAFOGLI

Giulielleria by Giulia Boccafogli

After a break of some months, I want to start again to publish my interviews to fashion and accessories designers.
This time I interview Giulia Boccafogli, a 29 years old architect, born and grown up in Bologna (Italy). After the degree in 2006 she started to create very particolar jewels as a second job.
She has taken part in many events, special occasions and fashion shows creating collections inspirited to particular themes.

- Which are your favourite fashion designer and why?

- I have not one favourite designer because I prefer to find the beauty in each creation. Then my style is quite changeable. But if I have to choose someone in particolar, I’ve loved the last year Prada collection. I like so much also Anna Sui and her folk-romantic style, and the elegance of Alberta Ferretti. I like also young designers and handmade items by Cinzia Ornato, Silvia Mazzoli, Vivian Lorca and Drica Dias.
I love to mix griffes and no brand clothes, also bought in street markets during my trips in India, Thailandia and Australia.

- How and when did your passion for fashion start?
- I’ve always loved creativity on fashion acccessories. The specific passion for jewels was born 10 years ago but just in last 4 years it has became a job.

- What do you create?
- I create jewels called “Giulielli” (as my name, Giulia). I have created six collections with different materials such as linoleum, silver, steel, semi-precious stones, mother-of-pearls, copper, silk, vintage buttons: Fragranza, Essenza, Multipop, Silk Shapes, Spezia and Minimal Chic.

- How do you describe your collections?
- I think that the perfect definition for my creations is “ductile”. I don’t want to choose one single style. Every single jewel is carefully made, well-framed and colourful.

- How do your creations come into existence?

- My creations always come into existence for a specific project. At the base of it there is an inspiration that can come from the pictures of a trip, or also from the problem of how to use a specific material. Sometimes far places inspire me; other times some tipe of materials, also unusual for jewels.

You can see all the collections by Giulia Boccafogli on her web site or on her blog.

In Italy, you can buy her creations in some shops:

BOLONDON - via Santo Stefano 12/a, Bologna

BERBER SOEPBOER: CHANGEABLE FASHION TO WEAR

Today I interview a very particolar fashion designer. She is Berber Soepboer: 25 years old, born in Island and now living in Amsterdam.
She has studied at Gerrit Rietveld Academy and then she has started to create collections of very suitable, confortable and changeable clothes, which can be worn in different ways, so that the owner can make choices in how to wear them.
The philosophy of her changeable clothes is: life exists of many choices based on expectations, desire and the available time; when everything is still possible the world seems an incredible place. She translate these endless possibilities in her design.
In these days she has an exhibition at the Stedelijk Museum ‘s Hertogenbosch.

- Which are your favourite fashion designer and why?
- I love Maison Martin Margiela and Hussein Chalayan for their concepts in combination with the design. But I mostly wear clothes by the dutch brand Cora Kemperman. These are simple designs a little special with great color and not too expensive.

- How and when did your passion for fashion start?
- I was always fascinated by the way people dress. And how they express theirselves, or absolutely not, in the way they dress.

- What do you create? And whitch materials do you use?
- I start with my concept and then I create whatever is most suitable to the concept. Up till now its mostly clothes, dresses and some beachwear. Maybe in the future I will make menswear, jewels and accessories. The material in which I work also depends on the concept and what I want to create, it could be anything if it is what I want. Untill now I created new fabrics to do things that can change the appearance of the piece.

- Which is your creations style? How do you describe your collections?
The one thing that makes a design special for me is the possibilities it gives to the wearer. I want to give the wearer a choice in how they want to wear a piece of clothing. You could describe my collections as Doable, multiple clothing, changeable.

- How do your creations come into existence? Which are your inspirations?
- I ususally want to make changeable clothing, so that would be the goal in the end. Then it depends on the circumstances what the design will become, is there a subject or a theme or anything that could relate to the design. My inspirations are things that happen around me, in my life or in the world. It could be anything as long a sit interests me.

- Are your creations on sale? How?
- Since last week one dress is for sale because of the many requests. On internet on my website: www.berbersoepboer.nl. You can order by sending me an email: check the news section on my website for specifics.

- Do you create unique creations or in series?
- Up to now I only created unique pieces, but when I am going to produce something it won’t be unique anymore untill the point people finished the design to what they like most. But it will never become a massive production. I want to keep the series limited.

- Do you work also on contract?
- If the assignment is challenging and it pays well, then I will deffinetly work on contract. Also I would love it to design clothes especially for people I admire.

UNUSUAL MATERIALS IN SILVIA’S THINK

Today I interview a young accessories designer. Her name is Silvia Mazzoli, 28 years old from Pesaro (Italy).
Se has not studied fashion design but she’s very creative. So she started to create accessories of different kind, using unusual materials as pvc and zip. At the beginning it was just a hobby, but then it became her job. So she invented her Silvia’s Think brand.
With her creations she tooks part in some seasonal fashion shows, organized by some shops in Riviera Adriatica, for which she has worked. Now she has a project with a shop to produce some customized bags. We will know something more in the future.

-Who are your favourite fashion designers and brands, and why?
I love Marni and Romeo Gigli because they present original and fanciful collections, with peculiar shapes and wearable at the same time. But I prefer to buy many cloche, also no-branded, and mix them.

-Quali sono i tuoi stilisti e marchi preferiti?
Mi piacciono molto Marni e Romeo Gigli perchè propongono collezioni originali e stravaganti, con tagli particolari e allo stesso tempo indossabili.

-How and when did your passion for fashion start?
I can’t label it as a passion for fashion world. I like creatività that is behind fashion. However, it started some years ago. At the beginning it was a hobby, just toh ave something particolar to wear. Then it became a job.

-What do you create?
Bags, belts and jewels. But in the future I’d like to create also some dresses and ornaments for home.

-How could you describe your collections? How do your creations come into existence?
I don’t think that my creations have a specific style. I like to change the original functionality of materials and give them new and unusual employ.

-Qual è lo stile delle tue creazioni? Come nascono?

-Is it possible to buy your creations? How?
Yes, you can find my creations in some shops all over Italy: Panpepato (Milano), Pesci pneumatici (Bologna) and Nonna Vera (Castelfidardo-Ancona). But also on line? (you can ask me by mail?). In the future I’d like to have my own shop.

-E’ possibile acquistare le tue creazioni? Come?

-Do you create unique creations or in series?
Each creation is completely handmade. Some of them are unique, others are riproducibile.

-Crei pezzi unici o in serie?
Ogni prodotto e interamente realizzato a mano.

-Do you work also on contract?
Yes, if it is possible I try to satisfy my customers.

THE EXCITING ELEGANCE IN FERENC CSABAY’S COLLECTIONS

This time I interview a talented fashion designer from Hungary. His name is Ferenc Csabay, he’s 32 years old and he is from Budapest. He studied at the Corvin Art School and then at Krea Art College.
With his creations he tooks part in many contest and fashion shows like the ones in Wien, Chicago, Toronto and Liepzig and also the Sziget Festival (2004-2005-2006).
With his works he had appearances on magazines like About20, Imago, Glamour and Vogue. He has always worked on his own projects and now he work at his CSF company.

-Who are your favourite fashion designers and brands, and why?
As a women’s wear designer my favorite designers are Yohji Yamamoto and Rei Kawakubo. I love the way how the japanese designers are handling the shapes. For myself it’s hard to find good man’s wear designer clothes to buy so if I really can’t find anything I rather make something for myself. Maybe soon it would be worth to launch a own CSF man’s wear line.

-How and when did your passion for fashion start?
It happened when the first fashion labels appeared in Hungary around 1991.
I thought I like this way of the clothing and because I got tailor profession, I started to make some own creations. I found that very exiting so then I started my fashion studies.

-What do you create?
I make small series collections for my target audience: young women who like to dress up elegantly yet but still like to show courage. I would like to make women to feel more confident when they are wearing my clothes.
I also used to make handbags as accessories but this is not seasonal for me. When I’ll have enough inspiration to make a CSF handbag collection then I’ll make one.

-What is your creations style? How could you describe your collections?
“Exciting elegance”, that is the motto of my new collection.

-How do your creations come into existence? Which are your inspirations?
Inspiration can come from everywhere. I can’t work beside drawing tables. I ‘m just making a lot of sketches during my days and if I feel it is time for a new collection I collect every napkin, bill and other piece of papers and I pull them together as a collection. I love so much this part of the design process. If I feel the collection sketches are ready then I start to work them out with my assistant and my pattern maker. The idea is the most important. I always try to put an interesting part even in the most simple pieces.

-Are your creations on sale? How?
The CSF company is quite young. I established it with my business partner Attila Kovacs only one year ago. Up to now, we can show up a store in Singapure (Epitome) and one in Budapest (Oltozo) as our label’s stockists. Right now we are working on to open our own showroom in Budapest and to start our online shop too, but we are always opened to make new business connections with boutiques and showrooms. We are looking to the future very confidently.

-Do you create unique creations or in series?
I’m representing collections and sometimes unique creations for style photoshootings to make promotional materials.

-Do you work also on contract?
Sometimes, but that’s not typical. If I have time beside the collections I use to work on special ideas.

Sono tanti: YSL (Stefano Pilati), Giambattista Valli, Chanel, Gucci, Alberta Ferretti, Elie Saab, Givenchy, Antonio Berardi, Balenciaga, Marchesa, Matthew Williamson, Fendi.

A cosa ti ispiri?

Come?
